BEANS
Ethiopia produces different types of beans for export and local consumption. Beans are typically rain-fed grown without chemicals on plots. The country is supplying beans in to the export canning industry of the Europe and middle east market.

HARICOT BEAN
Haricot beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) are the most important legume crop in Ethiopia. Over 300,000 ha are grown annually by small holders with an average farm holding of 0.3-0.4 ha. The crop has been grown as a food crop for a long period and has been known as an export crop for more than four decades. There are different types of haricot beans that grow in Ethiopia based on colors. White pea beans, Red kidney beans, Red speckled kidney beans, Light kidney beans and Pinto beans.

SOYA BEAN
Soya bean is locally known as "akuri ater" It grows in few areas of north Shewa. It is multipurpose, most nutritionally rich crop as it's dry seed contains the highest protein and oil content among grain legumes with a good balance of essential amino acids and oil.

GREEN MUNG BEAN
Green Mung bean is locally known as “Masho”. It is a recent introduction in the Ethiopian pulse production, Mung beans are small ,ovoid (and sometimes cylindrical) in shape with a bright green skin, hence they are also called green beans.

FABA BEAN
Faba bean is locally known as "Baqela". It is an important grain legume grown in central highlands of Ethiopia. it is a crop of manifold merits in the economy of the farming communities and serves as a source of food.
CHICKPEAS

KABULI CHICKPEAS
Kabuli Chickpeas are locally known as "Shinbra Dube". They are known for their large size, creamy color and smooth coat. They are nutritional powerhouses loaded with fiber, protein and nutrients.

DESI CHICKPEAS
Desi Chickpeas are locally known as "Shinbra". The Desi variety chickpea which widely grows in the country is small-seeded size and has a hard reddish-brown colored seed coat.
